I'll admit I had my doubts about this book, particularly in how much interest squid and other cephalopods would hold for me, but it was really quite excellent. It covers the fossil history of cephalopods and wraps up with the modern species.
The author writes factually, and I felt that all her commentary was topical and any humorous asides were appropriate. For example, she described a pyjama squid as looking like an anime character. And there were no clothing descriptions! Unless you count accessories that octopuses carry around with them, like two coconut halves that can be pulled together with the octopus inside to hide.
Recommended. Now to return it to the library in the nick of time!
