Made to Kill by Adam Christopher

Made to Kill: A Novel (L.A. Trilogy) - Adam Christopher

Series: Ray Electromatic Mysteries #1

In an alternate 1960s world, Raymondo Electromatic is the last robot and earns his money as a robot assassin but pretends to be a robot private investigator. He used to a PI for real, but his secretary/brains of the operation Ada decided they needed an alternate business plan. I picked this up because I quite liked the prequel short story Brisk Money. Unfortunately, what starts off as a movie star hiring Ray to kill her fellow actor doesn’t entirely work. Christopher gives reasons for all of his plot turns, but I didn’t find they held together coherently. The whole is meant to be a bit absurd, to be fair, but I wasn’t able to suspend my disbelief quite that much. I debated between 2.5 and 2 stars but felt it just didn’t rate above 2, which in my books means “okay” but not “average”.

I read this for booklikes-opoly square Tomorrowland 36 “Read a book where the author’s full name contains all of the letters in SPACE”: Adam Christopher. Since this is the second time that I’ve read a book for this square since the shake-up, the book’s 224 pages net me a whopping $9!
